What is Food For Thought?
Food For Thought is a healthy drive-thru restaurant concept aimed at providing healthy and delicious food to those in underserved communities.
Through research, it has been found that people in the target market community would be willing to pay a slightly higher price for healthy food if it was available to them. The problem which stands at the base of this concept is that there is a severe lack of healthy food options in underserved communities and an influx of these options in higher-income neighborhoods.
People who reside in low-income neighborhoods are at risk for more health issues and face a much lower life expectancy rate than those who live even a few miles away (in Los Angeles). These residents, just as much as and if not more than higher-income residents, deserve to be offered healthy food.
Convenience is so important for everyone, and it’s unfair that those who live in low-income neighborhoods have to sacrifice their health for convenience. Given the fact that residents of low-income neigh-
-borhoods are at risk for more health issues and face a much lower life ex-
-pectancy rate, it is completely unfair that they are stuck with virtually no options when it comes to eating healthy.
THAT IS WHY THE BASIS OF FOOD FOR THOUGHT IS THAT HEALTHY FOOD SHOULD BE AVAILABLE FOR ALL.
Research
The following statistics represent the results of a 128 person survey completed in November of 2020 in 16 zip codes within the general area of South Los Angeles.
The survey was sent out via an online neighborhood communication platform called Nextdoor.
